Probono: volunteering for charity business

Outside the boardroom. Inside the mission.

Digitising the Enablers

I see the non-profit world as a space that deserves the same innovation and rigour we bring to startups and businesses. I offer my time, skills, and networks to strengthen organisations that serve society — helping them scale, modernise, and lead with integrity.

Whether through advisory roles, fundraising strategy, or digital transformation, from my neighbourhood circles to diaspora-led initiatives, I help charities align trust, technology, and transparency, guiding trustees on digital fluency and human-centred governance.

Secretary: AIC

As the elected Secretary of Aylesbury Indian Community (AIC), I serve a vibrant network of over 2000 families who’ve made Aylesbury their home. I help nurture connections, grow membership, cultural stewardship, and collective support through well-loved events like Diwali, Holi, and family picnics.

My role spans governance, communication, volunteer coordination, and youth engagement, ensuring every initiative strengthens our shared roots while creating joyful memories across generations.

Sep 20 – Nov 25

Trustee: OUSU

As an elected Student Trustee of Oxford University Student Union, I had the privilege of helping oversee the strategic and legal stewardship of a historic institution representing one of the world’s most diverse student bodies.

I contributed to decisions that shaped the Union’s direction, governance, and long-term impact—balancing student interests with fiduciary responsibility. This role offered me deep insight into the mechanics of charity leadership and reaffirmed my belief in values-driven institutions serving collective good.

Secretary: Aylesbury Indian Commumnity
Ten years ago, when we moved to the beautiful Buckinghamshire town, it was lonely. The move was to meet multiple needs: my son’s superb secondary schooling, my commute to Oxford and London, and my proximity to Supirya’s first job. In three years, the town became home mostly due to the friends we made, our love of the community and meaningful connections made at multiple levels.
When the AYLESBURY INDIANS COMMUNITY (AIC) voted me their Secretary, I was a little nervous. I’d like to thank President Kannan and the lovely members for supporting me throughout.
Today I am proud to say, the community is vibrant and active, with multiple successful events across the year.
From 2019
2018 – 2019
Co-Chair: PTA Haddenham School
Austerity in the UK has greatly impacted the school funding. I joined my son’s primary school PTA (Parent Teacher Association) as the Co-Chair to lead the small team of enthusiastic parents to host events and raise funds that directly benefit the school infrastructure.

Digital Campaign Recording in Studio, Oxford University Student Union
2017 – 2018
Trustee : Oxford University Student Union
Though I come from the Indian state of West Bengal, a hotbed for student politics, debates, culture, liberalism and Nobel Laureates, I never chose to subscribe to the Student Union. But Oxford was different.
I chose to contest an election and was keen to volunteer for a charity business to contribute to the Global Community of 20,000 Students and test my public leadership.
2017 – 2018

Founding Member: Proyas Cultural
Far away from the cultural land of India, we have called this new country our home. While festivals and rituals are nostalgic to us, we also need to inculcate a sense of belongingness for our children.
With this objective, a few friends created the charity organization “Proyas” (meaning “an honest effort”) intending to continue the heritage here in the UK. This multicultural charity aims to foster the second generation to identify their roots.
